topaz vase pendants

The pendant on this necklace is hammered Argentium sterling silver in a vase shape. Hanging from the base of the vase are three topaz gemstones, one white and two green (the green topaz is treated to make it green). Wires threaded with small jade tube beads and vermeil cubes connect the silver vase to the delicate sterling silver chain. The clasp is sterling silver.

materials:

  • Argentium sterling silverArgentium sterling silver is a new sterling silver alloy that uses germanium instead of some of the copper in the alloy. The metal has a nice silver color and is much more tarnish resistant than regular sterling silver.
  • sterling silverSterling silver is a beautiful white metal, that is a mixture of pure silver and copper.
  • vermeilVermeil is gold plated over sterling silver.
  • jadeThe term jade is used to describe two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Of the two, jadeite is more rare and valuable. Nephrite jade provides a beautiful glowing green color, for a fraction of the cost of jadeite. Additionally, it is rarely treated. All of the jade used in my work is nephrite.
  • topaz, colorlessMany people know of topaz as a blue gemstone. However, in nature, topaz is typically colorless. I like to use faceted, colorless topaz to add a bit of sparkle.
