blue and gray chain necklace

This Argentium sterling silver chain is simple and elegant. It combines interlinked silver rings with clear quartz and iolite faceted round beads and gray pearls. The pendant features iolite and apatite briolettes. The clasp is sterling silver. This chain is very supple and has a nice feel.

materials:

  • Argentium sterling silverArgentium sterling silver is a new sterling silver alloy that uses germanium instead of some of the copper in the alloy. The metal has a nice silver color and is much more tarnish resistant than regular sterling silver.
  • sterling silverSterling silver is a beautiful white metal, that is a mixture of pure silver and copper.
  • apatiteApatite is a rare and somewhat unknown gemstone. It is not as hard as some other stones, which makes it more suitable for jewelry items that are less exposed to wear, such as earrings. It comes in a range of colors, such as green, yellow, violet, purple, etc. Sometimes apatite is treated by heating (e.g., to turn green stones a bright blue).
  • ioliteIolite is a blue or violet gemstone. It is distinctive because it shows different colors depending on the way you look at the stone (this is called pleochroism). For example, it can be a strong blue when you look at it one way, and then can become nearly colorless when you rotate the stone. Iolite is not typically treated.
  • cultured pearlPearls have been admired in jewelry for centuries. Most people are familiar with akoyas, which are cultured saltwater pearls, but there are many other types of cultured pearls, such as tahitian, south sea, and freshwater pearls. Cultured freshwater pearls are available in a lovely array of natural colors, pinks, mauves, oranges, etc., and are also available in many dazzling colors that are a result of dying. I primarily use cultured freshwater pearls, either natural color or dyed.
  • rock crystalRock crystal, which is colorless, transparent quartz, is a widely available gemstone.
